The goal of this project wasn't only to create an appealing game but also to design a game UI – an interface that assists players in navigating, accessing information, and achieving objectives.
The most challenging aspect of developing this interactive media was handling virtual elements. I had to code the three-dimensional objects, such as rocks and Venus sculptures. Most of the objects from Unity are void-like hollows, so we needed to solidify them to look like real-life rocks and sculptures—solid objects with gravity or haptic effects that players can jump on, rather than walking through.
As a designer who appreciates Zen gardens and Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese aesthetics of embracing imperfect perfection, I meticulously designed each layer of rocks, plants, and grass to capture the essence of wabi-sabi's balanced beauty. While the scene might appear somewhat chaotic, every element has been intentionally placed in its proper position. The goal of this interactive media is to collect hidden gemstones spread throughout the platform. Players must navigate and gather all the gemstones, revealing my artworks as hidden surprises.
Even with deadline-driven and technical issues, I managed to create the game as I wanted. Despite the challenges, I approached the project with meticulous attention to detail such as creating cherry blossom tree with realistic touch, and honed problem-solving skills, resulting in a remarkable end product—one that I take pride in contributing to.
